Screen Actors Guild Awards 2024: How to watch - Arts and Culture - News

The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards is set to take place on Saturday evening in Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone as the first time the ceremony will be live-streamed exclusively on Netflix. This prestigious event honors exceptional performances in film and television, selected by members of SAG-AFTRA. With the industry’s longest-awaited return to normalcy following last year’s actors’ strike, which coincided with the WGA writers’ strike, and as the last major awards show before the highly anticipated Oscars ceremony, anticipation for the SAG Awards is at an all-time high.

In the realm of television, the critically acclaimed show “Succession” leads the pack with a total of five nominations for its final season. Joining it in the competitive lineup are “The Morning Show,” “Abbott Elementary,” and “Ted Lasso,” among others, as well as the highly-regarded Netflix series “Beef.”

When it comes to film, Steven Spielberg’s anticipated productions “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” each garnered four SAG award nominations.

The 2024 SAG Awards will feature an impressive roster of presenters, with Idris Elba set to open the ceremony. The star-studded list includes Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and nominee Emily Blunt – who are reuniting after their iconic collaboration in “The Devil Wears Prada,” released nearly 18 years ago. Other presenters include Danielle Brooks, Margot Robbie, Colman Domingo, Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Sterling K. Brown, Michael Cera, Jessica Chastain, Billie Eilish, America Ferrera, Brendan Fraser, Taraji P. Henson, Greta Lee, Melissa McCarthy, Glen Powell, and Issa Rae.

The In Memoriam segment is always a poignant moment during the awards ceremony, and this year’s edition promises to be no exception as the industry pays tribute to the beloved stars we lost last year. Among those remembered will be Matthew Perry, who tragically passed away at the age of 54 in October.

Jennifer Aniston, Perry’s “Friends” costar, will present the prestigious 59th SAG Life Achievement Award to Barbra Streisand – a legendary actor, singer, producer, writer, and director.

For the first time, the SAG awards will be streamed live on Netflix, beginning on Saturday, February 24 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles. Tan France of “Queer Eye” fame, along with fashion editor Elaine Welteroth, will host the SAG preshow and red carpet, live-streamed on both Netflix and various Website social media integration platforms – YouTube and TikTok – at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on the same day.
