The annual Freedom Shield joint military drills between South Korea and the United States commenced on Monday, August 1, with a focus on enhancing readiness against potential North Korean threats. Additionally, North Korea has forged closer ties with Russia, providing Moscow with weapons for its war in Ukraine. In return, Western analysts suggest that Russia could potentially offer technology and expertise to Kim Jong Un as he continues his efforts to refine North Korea’s nuclear-capable missile program, posing a potential threat not only to neighbors in East Asia but also to the mainland United States with intercontinental ballistic missiles.
