According to Dave Procopio, director of media communications for the agency, the area was secured as a precaution while the bomb squad assessed the potential threat posed by the mysterious object.
Interestingly, such discoveries are not typical in magnet fishing activities, with ordnance more commonly discovered on beaches or at construction sites. Procopio further elaborated that “In our experience it is not common for people fishing with magnets to locate ordnance in bodies of water.”
