Title: “Amanda Knox’s 16-Year Journey to Freedom: A New Limited Series on Hulu”

Hulu is set to adapt the gripping true story of Amanda Knox’s wrongful murder conviction and eventual acquittal into an eight-episode limited series. According to a press release, Margaret Qualley of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Maid” fame will star as the titular character.

Amanda Knox, an American student, was falsely accused of the 2007 murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Perugia, Italy. The case became an international sensation following Kercher’s grisly death in the historic university city. Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were students at the University of Perugia at the time.

Following a highly publicized trial in 2009, both Knox and Sollecito were wrongfully convicted for Kercher’s murder. Knox received a sentence of 26 years in prison, while Sollecito was given a 25-year term. A third individual, Rudy Guede, was convicted in 2008 based on DNA evidence found at the scene and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Despite substantial evidence pointing towards Guede, Knox and Sollecito’s conviction was a subject of controversy due to the lack of definitive proof linking them to the crime. A lengthy legal saga ensued, leading to their acquittal in 2015 after spending four long years in an Italian prison.

Knox and her husband Chris Robinson, through their production company Knox Robinson Productions, will executive produce the series alongside Qualley, Monica Lewinsky, and Netflix’s “This is Us” producer K.J. Steinberg.

In the years following her exoneration, Knox has remained a controversial figure in the public eye but has been vocal in her efforts to clear her name through her 2013 memoir “Waiting to be Heard” and the 2016 Netflix documentary “Amanda Knox.”
