Mark Coleman, Former UFC Champion and Hero, Battles for Life after Saving Parents from House Fire

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star Mark Coleman is currently fighting for his life in the hospital following a heroic act in which he saved his parents from a devastating house fire in Ohio on Tuesday. According to an Instagram post by Morgan Coleman, Mark’s daughter, the former MMA fighter went back and forth into the burning house multiple times, managing to carry both of his parents out to safety. Tragically, despite his best efforts, they were unable to rescue the family’s beloved dog, Hammer, from the flames.

Morgan shared that her father was airlifted to a local hospital where he has been tirelessly battling for his life since the incident. She expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from their friends and family, asking for continued prayers during this challenging time.

Kenzie Coleman, Mark’s other daughter, shared on her Instagram stories that it was Hammer, their cherished family pet, who ultimately saved Mark’s life by barking loudly to wake him up before the fire engulfed the house.

MMA writer Jonathan Snowden, who had been in the process of collaborating with Coleman on a book project, shared a heartbreaking photo of Mark hooked up to a ventilator at the hospital. Snowden expressed his belief that if anyone could overcome the grasp of death, it would be Mark.

Mark’s longtime friend and fellow former UFC fighter Wes Sims confirmed on Facebook that Coleman is currently intubated and sedated at a hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Sims praised Mark’s strength and determination, describing him as one of the toughest individuals he has ever encountered – a man who has faced adversity time and time again.

Connie Coleman, Mark’s mother, also took to Facebook to express her gratitude for their survival and to request prayers for her son as he continues his courageous fight.

Mark Coleman is widely regarded as one of the most influential fighters in UFC history, having been the first ever UFC heavyweight champion. He retired from professional competition with a commendable record of 16 wins and 10 losses. Coleman’s accomplishments earned him a place in the UFC Hall of Fame in 2008.

Before embarking on his successful career in mixed martial arts, Coleman excelled as an amateur wrestler. In 1988, he captured the NCAA championship at Ohio State University. He later represented his country in the Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, in 1992. Despite the recent adversity he and his family have faced, Coleman’s legacy as a champion and hero will continue to inspire countless individuals.
