Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts” Tour Supports Reproductive Rights: Free Emergency Contraception and Resources in Missouri and Beyond

Olivia Rodrigo, the renowned singer-songwriter, continued her commitment to women’s reproductive rights during her “Guts” tour stop in St. Louis, Missouri, on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. As part of the Fund 4 Good initiative, Rodrigo made free emergency contraception and condoms accessible to concertgoers, along with resources on accessing abortion care.

The table offering these items was set up in collaboration between Right By You, a local organization dedicated to helping young people access reproductive care, and the Missouri Abortion Fund. The initiative gained significant traction on social media platforms as images of the resources circulated among attendees.

Fund 4 Good, a global initiative focused on building an equitable and just future for all women, girls, and people seeking reproductive health freedom, is the beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds from Rodrigo’s “Guts” tour. This commitment to providing resources and support began in September 2022, when LiveNation announced the partnership between Rodrigo’s tour and Fund 4 Good.

In addition to her St. Louis concert, a portion of ticket sales from her Omaha performance on September 22 was designated to benefit the Nebraska Abortion Resource organization and the Iowa Abortion Access Fund, further solidifying Rodrigo’s stance on reproductive rights.

Inspired by her song “Bad Idea, Right?” from the “Guts” album, Rodrigo’s social media images featured text reading, “Funding abortion? It’s a good idea, right?” This phrase resonated with the singer’s dedication to advocating for reproductive rights and sparked discussions about the importance of access to these essential resources.

The ongoing initiative comes at a time when abortion restrictions have become increasingly strict in various states, such as Missouri and Nebraska, following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. This landmark decision eliminated the federal constitutional right to an abortion and transformed the landscape of women’s reproductive health in America.

Rodrigo, who was performing at the UK music festival Glastonbury when the decision was announced, shared her disappointment and fear for women’s lives with the audience: “I’m devastated and terrified that so many women and so many girls are going to die because of this.”

The “Guts” tour, which kicked off in February 2022 and runs until August 14, 2023, spans across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Rodrigo’s unwavering commitment to supporting reproductive rights has inspired fans and sparked important conversations surrounding women’s health and autonomy.
