Pelosi Praises Schumer’s Call for New Israel Elections as an Act of Love and Courage

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed her appreciation for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s recent remarks advocating for a new election in Israel during an interview on News Finder’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. Pelosi considered Schumer’s statement an act of bravery and compassion for Israel, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s criticism of the comments.

During his interview with News Finder, Netanyahu expressed disappointment over Schumer’s words, labeling them “totally inappropriate.” In response to this, Pelosi emphasized that Schumer genuinely cares for Israel and his remarks should be taken seriously as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens.

The former speaker criticized Netanyahu’s claim that Israel is allowing sufficient aid into the region, stating that it was a “very sad situation” as humanitarian organizations anticipate a potential famine in Gaza. Pelosi also questioned Netanyahu’s awareness or understanding of the current situation, given his statement contradicted the warnings from aid agencies.

Pelosi further addressed Netanyahu’s reaction to Schumer’s call for new elections, commenting on the irony of the prime minister’s statement given his past involvement in US politics. She recalled Netanyahu’s controversial address to the US Congress in 2015, where he criticized then-President Barack Obama and the Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA). In his speech, Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s security concerns and warned that the deal would enable Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

After the US withdrawal from the JCPOA in 2018 by President Donald Trump, Pelosi noted that it was intriguing to observe Netanyahu’s stance on interfering in American politics. She suggested that the prime minister’s criticism of Schumer regarding new elections was ironic given his past actions.

In the same News Finder interview, Democratic Representative Adam Schiff from California concurred with Schumer’s sentiments regarding reducing civilian casualties in Gaza but did not support the timing of elections suggested by the leader.
