Third Suspect Charged with Second-degree Murder in Connection to Fatal Shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Rally

A significant development occurred in the ongoing investigation of a mass shooting that took place following a Kansas City Chiefs championship rally last month, leaving one woman deceased and over two dozen individuals injured. Prosecutors announced the charges against a third suspect on Thursday, identifying him as Terry J. Young, 20 years old.

Young is now facing charges of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office. As of now, an attorney for Young has not been identified in the public records. The suspect is being held on a substantial $1 million cash bond, as stated in court records.

The tragic sequence of events began when Young and two other individuals approached an individual from another group, resulting in a heated verbal argument, according to the prosecutor’s office. As tensions escalated, one person from each party is reported to have pulled out firearms. A review of surveillance footage revealed that Young brandished a weapon and allegedly fired several shots towards the first individual.

Investigators diligently searched for evidence to identify the suspects, including examining social media accounts and cell phone data. The distinctive backpack worn by Young in his social media photographs matched the one seen in Union Station’s surveillance footage, where the shooting unfolded. Furthermore, cell phone data indicated that the device was present near the scene of the crime during the time of the incident.

Two other suspects, Lyndell Mays, 19, and Dominic M. Miller, 27, were charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action last month. Both are currently held on $1 million bond. Legal representation for Mays has been identified, while an attorney for Miller remains undisclosed.

Three juveniles are also facing charges in Family Court, as per the prosecutor’s office update on Thursday. The investigation remains ongoing with more charges expected to be filed as the authorities continue their efforts to bring all parties involved in this tragic event to justice.

“We have identified and taken into custody every individual who discharged a firearm in response to the verbal altercation detailed here,” Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker stated. “The entire Kansas City community is mourning this senseless act of violence, and we are committed to working tirelessly to ensure justice for the victims and their families.”
