Arnold Schwarzenegger Openly Shares His Pacemaker Surgery Experience, Encouraging Others with Heart Conditions
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the renowned Hollywood actor and former California governor, has recently undergone a surgery to get a pacemaker implanted. In the latest episode of his podcast “Arnold’s Pump Club,” he shared this news with his audience, expressing that he is currently doing great.
During the podcast, Schwarzenegger revealed that last Monday, he underwent a procedure to become “a little more of a machine” by getting a pacemaker fitted. He mentioned that sharing this information goes against his upbringing in Austria, where discussing medical issues was kept confidential. However, the actor’s transparency has led to numerous messages from people born with similar heart conditions, who have found courage and hope from his previous surgeries.
Schwarzenegger explained that he was born with a bicuspid aortic valve, a congenital heart defect. Over the years, he has undergone several surgeries to address this issue, including pulmonic valve replacements in 1997 and 2018, and an aortic valve replacement in 2020. The actor stated that doctors advised him to have this latest surgery due to some scar tissue from his previous procedure causing irregular heartbeats for a few years.
Despite undergoing the surgery, Schwarzenegger is optimistic about his recovery and was already attending a big environmental event with his friend Jane Fonda by Friday. He thanked the medical team at the Cleveland Clinic for their expertise and care. The actor also shared that he will have to get regular check-ups but is determined not to complain, stating that he is still here due to medical innovation and his commitment to staying in touch with his doctors.
Schwarzenegger also shared that his intense training at the gym will have to be put on hold for a while but is fully committed to being ready for his upcoming Netflix action-adventure series, “Fubar.”
