Jay Leno Granted Conservatorship of Wife Mavis Leno’s Estate due to Her Dementia

The Los Angeles Superior Court granted Jay Leno’s request for a conservatorship over his wife Mavis Leno’s estate during a hearing on Tuesday. The court documents filed after the hearing stated that Jay Leno was deemed “suitable and qualified” to be appointed as the conservator of his wife’s estate.

The judge also found “clear and convincing evidence that a Conservatorship of the Estate is necessary and appropriate.” According to the court documents, this was due to Mavis Leno’s inability to manage her financial affairs independently. The documents further revealed that she is currently living with dementia.

The conservatorship was determined to be the “least restrictive alternative” necessary for Mavis Leno’s protection.

Jay Leno, 73-year-old comedian and former “Tonight Show” host, filed a petition in January to request the conservatorship over his wife’s estate. He stated that he believes Mavis would have executed her estate plan if she had the capacity to do so. Throughout their 43-year marriage, Jay Leno has primarily managed their finances and has expressed his intention to continue doing so under the conservatorship.

In January, Jay Leno submitted a filing stating that he would execute her estate plan on Mavis’ behalf if granted the conservatorship. He highlighted his role as the primary financial manager in their marriage and expressed his commitment to continuing this role under the conservatorship.

Representatives for both Jay and Mavis Leno declined to comment on the matter when approached by News Finder. The couple has been married for over four decades.
