Barbra Streisand, an esteemed EGOT-winner, has been inspired to create new music for an upcoming television series that delves into historical events while shedding light on a persisting issue in the present day.
Streisand, the most recent recipient of SAG’s Life Achievement Award, has recorded a heartfelt new song entitled “Love Will Survive.” This moving composition will be included in the upcoming Peacock series, “The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” as announced on Wednesday, April 6, 2023.
In a poignant statement, Streisand expressed her motivations behind creating “Love Will Survive,” stating: “Amidst the alarming rise in antisemitism across the world today, I wanted to sing this song as a poignant reminder of the six million souls we lost less than 80 years ago. The power of love can triumph and endure, even in the darkest of times.”
Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer collaborated with Kara Talve and Walter Afanasieff to create this exquisite musical piece. “Love Will Survive” marks Streisand’s first-ever recording for a television series. Accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by William Ross, this powerful composition is set to leave audiences in awe.
“The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” based on Heather Morris’s acclaimed novel, brings to life the poignant story of a Slovakian Jewish man named Lale Sokolov who becomes the tattooist at Auschwitz and develops a profound connection with a woman, despite their harrowing circumstances. The series follows this couple’s inspiring quest to “keep each other alive,” as per the logline provided by Peacock.
Streisand, who last released a studio album of new music in 2018, plans to release “Love Will Survive” on April 25, 2023, via Columbia Records. The much-anticipated Peacock series is set to premiere on May 2, 2023.
