Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett Stands Up Against Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Disrespectful and Racist Remarks

Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas firmly condemned her Republican counterpart, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, for making disrespectful and racist remarks during a heated House Oversight Committee markup session on Thursday evening. The session aimed to advance contempt proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland for refusing to provide audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.

The tension began when Greene, a known provocateur and ally of former President Donald Trump, made a derogatory comment about Crockett’s appearance. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,” Greene stated, causing an immediate outcry from fellow committee members.

In response to this offensive comment, Crockett spoke with reporters on Friday and did not mince words when labeling Greene’s behavior as “racist.” She emphasized, “That’s all it is. It is racism. And she decided that she was going to be that person out loud and out front on yesterday.”

When contacted by News Finder for a comment, Greene’s office responded with the argument that Crockett was the one who brought up the topic of color. However, the House rules clearly state that members are prohibited from engaging in personal attacks against each other. Violations of this rule result in offending members having their words stricken from the record and being banned from further participation in the proceedings.

Despite numerous attempts by other committee members to remove Greene’s inflammatory comment, a vote to strike her words from the record failed, enabling her to continue her disrespectful behavior.

Greene’s provocation began when she questioned Democrats on the committee about whether any of them employed the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who presides over the criminal trial in New York involving former President Trump. Republicans have targeted Merchan’s daughter due to her ties to Democrats as a part of their efforts to undermine the case against Trump.

The exchange between Greene and Crockett escalated when Crockett inquired, “Do you know what we’re here for?” Greene’s response was, “I don’t think you know what you’re here for … I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.” Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez intervened, expressing her disgust at Greene’s behavior and advocating for the removal of her derogatory comments.

During the session, Crockett made a pointed remark in response to Greene’s antics: “I’m just curious. Just to better understand your ruling. If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

Crockett further stated that Greene lacks the ability to engage in meaningful discourse and is unworthy of representing her district. “She needs to get a staff that can get her up to speed so that she can actually talk about something of substance,” Crockett emphasized, adding that she would not tolerate disrespect.

“One thing I’m not going to do is have somebody disrespect me as a duly elected official myself, and then I’m just going to say, well, that’s okay. And rub it off. No, we’re not going to do that,” Crockett asserted firmly. She vowed to defend herself if necessary and not let disrespectful behavior go unchecked.
